Adaptation of traditional agricultural buildings ( or Barns) has been occuring all over the world for the last few decades. Artists were some of the first to recognize the potential for barns as a personal retreat. Once reserved for livestock and feed these structures have been transformed to spaces for domestic application.
In the early twentieth century as farmers struggled manyh properties were purchased to become vacation retreats. Following the Second world war, barn houses and their contemporary spaces soon found themselves transformed into year round residences.
The Decline fo Agriculture in Europe and North America led to many of these structures being converted . It also led to many of these structures being destroyed and neglected. In recent years Hundreds of barns have been renovated , relocated and re-erected with traditional techniques thanks to many builders , framers and those committed to preservation . Architects an builders are now paying homage to the traditional designs with a modern twist. Timeless qualities can be maintained with modern materials.
